WOW, WOW, WOW! That's all I can say. Our class assembly was today and it was fantastic. The children wrote it all themselves and I was proud of every one of them. I learnt a lot about the olympics and paralympics myself. It was great to see so many parents showing their support too.

WELL DONE CLASS 7. I AM ONE VERY HAPPY TEACHER.

Back to school, and loving it!!

Class 7 (year 6) all wrote speeches to persuade their classmates to vote for them for Head boy or Head girl. Mr Gough came across to listen and was very impressed at how confident all the children were. Each member of the class had 2 votes and  (drum roll please) it was decided that ...

Head boy - Meici Jones
Deputy Head boy - Josh Davies
Head girl - Nikhil Powell
Deputy Head girl - Rhiannon Gwilym

All the children are fantastic but I think the children have made a great choice and I know that these four will do an awesome job!

This year will be amazing!!

Around the world in 8 classes!

Last week was so busy in the nursery! We went to a special assembly and the Olympic torch was there. When we went back to class Sam came around with the torch and everyone was able to hold it and have their picture taken with it. It was really exciting. Then Sam came back around with the Triple Crown and The 6 Nations trophies. They were really heavy!
In the afternoon we had our own Olympics. Everyone moved around the classes to practise different sports. In the nursery, Miss Rutter told the children all about Canada and about lacrosse. Lacrosse is a contact sport so we made up our own gentler version for the children to play! It was lots of fun.

We had a great day in school today. Sam Weed who is from Tredegar and was lucky enough to get chosen to carry the Olympic Torch came to school with the Olympic Torch and the children had a chance to hold it. He told them about his experience.

We also had the 6 nations trophy and the triple crown in school for all children to see.

In the afternoon we had Olympic taster sessions where each class showed the other children how to play a new sport. Our country was Japan and our children did Sumo Wrestling. It was great.

I have added pictures below.

The Olympics

Class 1 had a fab day today. The olympic torch came to our school and we all had our photos taken holding it! The Six nations trophies also came and we had photos taken with them. What an exciting day. We had a mini olympics this afternoon and each class had to choose a country and a sport. Our class chose Russia and we chose ice hockey for our sport. We all had a go with an ice hockey stick shooting a puck into goals. We visited other classes and experienced different cultures and sports. A fun day had by all.

Well what a busy week.

Music Idols our school singing talent show was amazing. The children were all fantastic and the talent just keeps getting better! Thank you parents for costumes and for supporting us by watching. Thanks to Karen Jones and  everyone else who made it possible. Mostly a great WELL DONE to all the acts. Two great nights!!

The y6 went to the comp on Wednesday to take part in a gym display organised by Tredegar Comp PE department. Our y6 performed their routine perfectly in front of children and staff from all Tredegar schools, and it was great to watch. Some children even had a go at doing front flips off a trampette too!

The Y6 Can Sing concert took place at Tredegar Comp tonight. Year 6 children from each Tredegar primary school took part. Our children sang Oh Happy Day and although there was a mix up with the music that didn't stop them being AMAZING! Well done to all those y6 children who took part.

Year 4, 5 and 6 had the chance to design a non-smoking poster to promote Non-smoking. Neville Hall Hospital now have a non-smoking policy and anybody who wishes to smoke has to go off the premises. I didn't have many entries in but I sent off the ones I did have and Rhiannon Gwilym in my class won the competition. Her poster can now be seen in Neville Hall Hospital so keep an eye out for it!!

Well done Rhiannon!!

Miss Lewis
Haven't blogged for ages, so here goes!!

Well done to everybody in my class for a phenomenal class assembly last week. I would like to thank the parents for coming to watch, but most of all the children, I really am blessed with a talented class!! I am proud of every single one of you.

Mondays practise for the St Davids Hall concert on July 2nd went well. Children from each school in Tredegar came to Deighton and we went through all the songs together. It sounded great and was a good chance for children from the Tredegar schools to get to know one another.

Yesterdays practice for the school show Music Idols was great! It's really coming together now thanks to Karen Jones and of course our wonderfully talented kids! I cannot wait for the show!

Very proud of the children I took to the Tredegar Town Sports today. Not only were they all fatastically behaved, but they all did their best and again there were some real stars!! Lots of medals were won! Well done Deighton!!

Easter Raffles

Lots of children have bought Easter raffle tickets and so far over £100 has been raised.  Thank you for supporting the Friends of Deighton and the school in our fundraising.  Miss. A. Jones is pricing up a new cooker for the school and this money is going towards that.  We hope we have the cooker very soon and then we can start trying out some new recipes!  We know money is short these days which is why we appreciate the generosity you show when you send in those £!'s.

Once again, THANK YOU!

Tree Planting.

This week saw all the children of Deighton School taking turns to plant tree saplings that Ms. Hopkins got for us from The Woodland Trust.

We have planted the trees around the school grounds to create future shady areas.  The children worked in groups making T cuts in the ground to plant the saplings.  There were Alders, Crab Apples, and many more types of trees planted.  Luckily we had a lovely bright Spring day to go outside.  It was a really enjoyable day.  The year 6 children worked alongside the other children of the school giving them guidance and support and showed them how to work together to carefully plant the trees.  Well done guys!

We look forward to the next time we go planting!  Ms. Hopkins is on the case for more donations from The Woodland Trust.  We would like to thank her and them for giving us the opportunity to improve our school grounds with these lovely trees.  Thank you!

Class Assemblies

It's great to see the class assemblies back again!  Each one has been so enjoyable.  It has been excellent to see how many parents/carers have attended and supported their children and the school.  We would like to say a big thank you for coming along on these Wednesday afternoons, it means a great deal to the children that you come to watch.  It also gives you the chance to see what they have been learning in class.

We are looking forward to Class 2's assembly next!  Well done everyone.  Keep up the great work!
